Class 2
Topic: At home.
Vocabulary: Doll, car, teddy bear, bed, table.
Grammar: Where is the … It’s on, under, in, behind (4
prepositions of place)
It was the second class, so students were kind
of familiar with the class. I consider it was a very nice class because
students not only learned new things but also they review what they had studied
before.
This class was conducted by Gisselt, Cristela,
and Monica. The first activity they did was the warm up. It was about singing a
very nice song which was titled “how are you today”. It was nice because
children not only had the opportunity to watch the video of the song but also
they could sing the song, and I consider it was a great idea to start with it
because students got involved and very excited with it.

Next, the presentation started. Gisselt was in
charge of it, so she presented a power point presentation in which they were
going to encounter and clarify the target language for the class. First, she
introduced the target vocabulary by pointing out some pictures and asking them
if they know what that was, if they say it, she just corrected them the
pronunciation problem, and if they did not, she told them the word and made
them repeat it for clarifying it. Once she introduced the vocabulary, she
presented some prepositions by saying where the objects were. Then she gave
them a box so they could clarify the four prepositions. During these
activities, I observed that my case of study was involved in the task. However,
when students were practicing the prepositions with the boxes, she was like
lost, and she was just looking at her classmates in order to do what it was
expected.

Then, the practice stage came. One of the
activities in which students were very excited in participating was Cristelas’
activity which was about practicing prepositions. As it was a movement activity,
all of them engaged in it all the time. Even though it was a great activity, I
consider most of them were not reaching the objective of practicing
prepositions because most of them were just following the others, they did
not
look at the preposition but at their classmates. One of these cases was Darlin,
she was just following the rest. I think it could have been a perfect activity
if she had asked per small groups or even individually to do it. In this way,
they had learned at least the preposition words.

Another interesting activity was carried out by
Monica. It was about competing. She made two teams, and she put on the floor
some objects (two of each object), and students had to have was put the object
according to what Monica said in order to have more practice of the target
language. I could notice that in this activity Darlin as some other children
had not internalized the vocabulary yet because when Monica said the sentence
they just follow what their partners told them, and even helping each other,
they still showed some trouble in identifying some of the prepositions.
Nonetheless, they were practicing to internalize them, so it was ok because not
all of them learn in the same way and some needed even more practice to
internalize the new target language.
They ended the class with another song titled
the “good bye” song. Even though students could not internalize the song, they
enjoyed, so we will continue singing in order they can internalize it. Although
the class presented problems, it was very good for being the second class. I
enjoyed too.
